My name is Bob Croxton and I am chairman of the Criminal Information Bureau Limited and I am also an ex-offender who has served two custodial sentences. Over the past 25 years I have personally visited most prisons in the UK whether it is to visit a family member or close friend or someone who has contact our office and has asked for me to go and visit them. In all honesty, through serving time myself, and visiting hundreds of individuals I now class myself as being very knowledgeable in all areas of prison and prison life. My organisation has also catered for the legal needs of over 4000 individuals in prison.

 

Each night I personally man the 24 hour help line number and often spend many hours talking too many different concerned parents, distraught partners and unsure friends and relatives of individuals serving sentence. The most important thing that I highlight is that my organisation is not a government run project and that we don’t work for any statutory body and that we are self financing and the information that I personally provide is FREE.

Most of the people I speak too now come back to me or my office and now use the service of the CIB. But probably the most rewarding part of what I do is knowing that the person on the other end of the phone now has a clearer picture of what their loved one or friend is going through in prison and also that they now understand more about prison and prison life and that they now have someone that they can talk too 24 hours a day. Please always remember that all I provide is done on a voluntary basis and that my organisation is a commercial enterprise that makes money via various advertising and other forms of income.
