Two Week Intensive Intervention Project Initiated by the CIB

Overview of the Two Week Intensive Intervention Project

Welcome to the Two Week Intensive Intervention Project designed by the Criminal Information Bureau Limited (CIB). The aims of the project is to highlight to young adults the consequences of becoming involved in negative and criminal behaviour and how the choices and decisions they make to day will ultimately be the decisions and choices they will have to live with in the future. We aim to tackle this behaviour and negative attitudes by engaging with the young adults by introducing them to a number of key Outreach Talks, which will both inform and challenge their perceptions of negative lifestyles. The young adults will also be taken in to a long term prison where they will meet with a Prison Intervention Counter Group whose aim is to provide the participants with a clear picture of the true realities of entering a life of crime which will ultimately lead to a life of custodial prison sentences. NOTE: This project is about education and not intimidation; however the sharing of experiences by those caught up in the prison system, through entering a life of crime, we believe will be a valuable lesson for those who attend the project.

As part of the two week project we have introduced a Freedom and Choices Day which is a stark contrast to being locked up in prison and will illustrate that positive behaviour can lead to an independent and rewarding future for those who try. As the scheme progresses the young adults will be asked to participate in answering questions on four different Questionnaires. The object here is to formulate an accurate picture of each of the young adults looking specifically at attitudinal measures and change, and to also highlight issues that may need addressing.

The young adults also get to meet victims of crime through the Survivors of Crime Day. This is where the young adults get to listen first hand to members of the public who have been affected by crime or anti-social behaviour that they may have committed or known someone to have played a part in. The idea of this part of the project is so that both the victim and potential perpetrator, through a restorative justice session, understand how crime negatively affects all. Our organisation now believes at this point we will have changed the attitudes of the young adults on the project towards crime and its victims and that they are now ready to be redirected towards a more productive life.

The ultimate reward for the young adult taking part of the project, and his immediate family and for members of the public is if the young adult in question can be given an alternative to criminal behaviour, which in this case would be full time employment of his or her choice. We have created an area of the scheme called Opportunities Day. We aim to bring a number of potential employers to our offices that are aware of the scheme, and have agreed to take part in potentially employing one or more of the young adults. The day will be broken into two half's a morning session were the student speaks to the potential employers about their personal dreams and aspirations in life such as a worth while career. The afternoon session will be all about the employer highlighting how the student presented themselves in a question and answer session with ultimately the young adults been offered places of employment.

The final evening of the project is called Building Bridges and Rendition Evening This is where the CIB brings together all those involved in the project in order to allow the student to discuss with the group how the two week project went and did it ultimately change their attitudes towards crime and its victims. It is also for those young adults that the course has made a difference to understand that all those involved in the course are there to offer support, help, guidance and direction at anytime in the future in order for the young adult to lead a normal, prosperous, and productive life.
